Union Budget 2024: Major Tourism and Infrastructure Boost for Bihar

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has unveiled a comprehensive initiative to enhance tourism and infrastructure in Bihar during the Union Budget 2024, with a focus on historical and religious sites. A key highlight is the development of Nalanda as a prominent tourist center, coupled with the revitalization of the historic Nalanda University.

The Mahabodhi Temple corridor in Bodhgaya is set to undergo a significant transformation, modeled after the renowned Kashi Vishwanath temple corridor. Additionally, both the Vishnupad Temple in Gaya and the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya will be upgraded to world-class heritage sites, aiming to attract more domestic and international tourists.

In her Union Budget 2024 announcement, Sitharaman also outlined plans for developing Gaya city into an industrial hub, emphasizing the government’s commitment to improving connectivity and tourism in the region.

“On the Amritsar-Kolkata industrial corridor, we will support the establishment of an industrial node in Gaya,” Sitharaman stated, highlighting the strategic importance of this initiative for regional development.

The budget allocates a substantial ₹26,000 crores for key infrastructure projects in Bihar. These projects include the construction of the Patna-Purnea expressway, the Buxar-Bhagalpur highway, a two-lane bridge over the Ganga river in Buxar, and the Bodhgaya-Rajgir-Vaishali-Darbhanga corridor. According to the Finance Minister, these infrastructure developments are crucial for stimulating growth in the eastern part of India.

These initiatives are expected to significantly boost tourism in Bihar, create jobs, and drive economic development across the region. They reflect the government’s broader vision for a prosperous and well-connected India.
